My work

My work as a Creative; as a Pastor, as a storyteller all involve telling His story. The heart of the story is the reason why it must be told.

He showed me how to use these gifts in church for His glory.

Beyond the Cross

John of the Cross is an imagined work created to tell the Apostle John’s story of his relationship with his best friend Jesus. It is set on Patmos as John is in exile at the time he receives the Revelation. The performance covers John’s meeting with Jesus, His miracles, the resurrection and the death of the disciples.

It is flexible in content as it can also cover the Crucifixion.

Production needs:

It is designed to fit into a preaching time frame of around 30-35 minutes. This too is flexible. It runs with a soundtrack, but no need for props etc; just a headset microphone.

Ideally if the church is equipped with lighting, then a minimal lighting setting can be used but not necessary.

Preaching

Why I enjoy preaching

I enjoy telling God’s story through my messages. Christ centred. As well as the visual and the experiential, Jesus used words, stories, to position the people to hear what He needed them to hear not just what they wanted to hear.

Story is king and always has been king. Our younger generation is demanding an authentic church. God’s word is authentic and that is what I always strive to bring in my messages.

As a creative I strive to work and create in God’s shadow. Allowing the light to fall only on Him and His glory. This is a message I want to bring to churches, His story, not my story being told.

PRODUCTIONS & TEACHING

Having spent many years as head of Performance and Production at C3 College and C3 Oxford Falls church, I gained much experience as a creative understanding the role of the creative in church. Some creatives feel invisible in church as they or the church are unsure how to use their gifts. All creatives in church, be they musician, graphics, lighting, sound etc; are all a part of creating the service and the telling of God’s story through their respective giftings.

I learnt during my time as Head of production, which involved not just weekends but major events and conferences inside and outside church, I learnt the importance of each role and that no one role was greater or lesser than another.

I wish to encourage, share experiences and give back to the church Creatives some of what I have learned over my twenty-three-year career in church.
